STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – “Service to all mankind.” That’s the motto the women of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. live by and this weekend they’re serving children in the Golden Triangle.

More than 300 AKA’s from chapters across Mississippi are attending the sorority’s state-wide meeting on the MSU campus in Starkville.

In addition to attending workshops on the organization’s international programs, members also collected and donated gift cards to children of active duty military parents and children whose parents are incarcerated.

“We look to say ‘what can we do for  them.’ Everybody wants to do something for children because that is our future. Definitely, children of incarcerated parents. That’s a big heavy load to take,” says Washington.

The statewide meeting was hosted by the undergraduate and graduate AKA chapters in Starkville and Columbus.
