Ala. Rite Aid Distribution Center Closing

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — A Rite Aid distribution center in Tuscaloosa will likely close in 2016, eliminating 250 jobs.

A local newspaper reports that the facility is one of three centers being closed when Rite Aid consolidates distribution into a new facility, in either in northern Georgia or North Carolina.

A spokeswoman for the national pharmacy chain says employees were told about the plans several weeks ago.

The company says in a statement that the facilities are more than 30 years old and too expensive to upgrade and modernize.

The company says it will work with qualified employees to find other opportunities at Rite Aid.
