Alabama Layoffs

MONTGOMERY, AL (WCBI) – Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore is expected to layoff 150 employees once the new state fiscal year starts October 1.

Monday Governor Robert Bentley signed the $1.7 billion General Fund for non-educational agencies for the fiscal year 2014. With a point four percent larger budget than this year the judicial branch would be increased from $102.8 million to $108.4 million. The budget accounts for that increase but the courts say they need an additional $8.5 million to maintain its current operation. Moore say, if Governor Bentley doesn’t approve the increase he’ll have to cut 150 of the 1800 employees currently employed.

Most of the cuts will be among juvenile probation officers and circuit clerk employees.
