Alabama’s Unemployment Rate Up Slightly

MONTGOMERY, AL(WCBI)- New labor statistics show Alabama’s unemployment rate is up slightly. The jobless rate now stands at 6.2%.

Labor Commissioner Fitzgerald Washington says the increase could be because 10,000 more people entered the workforce.

In our viewing area, Lamar County has an unemployment rate of 5.8%, while the jobless rate in Pickens County is 6%.

The state’s jobless rate is just 2% higher than it was a year ago.

The unemployment rate is still 1.2% higher than the national rate of 5%.
