Alcorn Supervisor Arrested, Again

CORINTH, Miss. (AP) – An Alcorn County supervisor is charged with grand larceny after authorities say he allegedly posed as an auto parts store employee and took a money bag.

Corinth Police Chief Ralph Dance tells media outlets that Supervisor Jimmy “Dal” Nelms turned himself into police Thursday after a weeklong investigation.

Dance says Nelms walked into an O’Reilly Auto Parts store about two weeks ago, went into the manager’s office and took a deposit bag of cash.

Dance says while in the store, Nelms changed into an employee’s shirt and created a distraction so he would walk away.

In December, Nelms was charged with 156 counts of embezzlement and forgery. The state auditor’s office says Nelms’ created a scheme to collect payments from county vendors in exchange for getting county business.

Nelms was charged with grand larceny yesterday after authorities say he allegedly posed as an auto parts store employee and took a money bag. Last December, Nelms was charged with 156 counts of embezzlement and forgery. The state auditor’s office said Nelms created a scheme to collect payments from county vendors in exchange for getting county business.

State Auditor Stacey Pickering says the resignation of Nelms is the “beginning of restoration of integrity and reputation for Alcorn County and Corinth, Mississippi.”

According to District Attorney John Weddle, Nelms is currently incarcerated in the Alcorn County jail. Weddle states he expects more information in Nelms’ ongoing embezzlement and forgery charges to be released next week in a press conference with his and Pickering’s offices.
