Alligator Hunting Permits Available Beginning Tuesday

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Alligator hunting season is fast approaching.

The 2015 Mississippi public waters alligator hunting season begins Aug. 28 and runs through Sept. 7.

There are 920 permits available for the seven zones statewide. Permits will be available on a first come, first served basis and can only be purchased electronically through the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks’ website (www.mdwfp.com) beginning Tuesday at 9 a.m.

Each permit costs $150 and will require the additional purchase of a $25 Alligator Hunting License.

To be eligible, you must be a Mississippi resident, at least 16 years of age, and possess a valid Mississippi combination hunting/fishing license. Each permit allows for the harvest of two alligators over four feet long, but only one may exceed seven feet in length.
