AMORY, Miss. (WCBI) – Amory voters may soon be able to weigh in on whether or not to allow alcohol sales within the city limits.

An organization called Citizens for the Economic Development of Amory are seeking signatures to get a referendum so voters can decide for themselves. Petitions are set to circulate this week. 20% of Amory’s registered voters are needed to get the referendum passed. According to the group behind the petitions, legalizing the sale of alcohol would help spur tourism and promote a thriving downtown.

Once the signatures are verified the city must call a special election within 30 days.
