AMORY, Miss. (WCBI) – It’s been an Amory tradition since 1979 and this year is no different.
Vendors lined the streets in downtown Amory for the Railroad Festival.
From crafts and live music and of course – the food, there is something for everyone this weekend.
It’s the 37th Annual Railroad Festival weekend, one of the biggest events in North Mississippi when thousands come to enjoy the fun.

The 200 vendor booths are the center of attention in downtown Amory.

Organizers say the festival draws in so many because of the friendly environment.

“It doesn’t cost anything to come and stroll around and look, it’s just fun that a lot of families haven’t been able to experience lately with the weather. People come back every year because of the hospitality here in Amory,” said Heather Jones, Chairman of the Railroad Festival Committee.

Not to mention — the smell of festival food that fills the air.

One of the most popular spots is the apple fritter tent.

The fritters are made fresh, only once a year at the festival.

“About 35 years that we’ve been serving them and we have people come from all over to get them. This year, we had a lady that flew from San Diego, California and she made her trip especially so she could get some apple fritters,” said Pastor Coy Hill, with Bethel Apostolic Church.

The group from Bethel Apostolic Church make the fritters in 5 gallon batches, so far, more than 600 fritters have sold.

Pastor Hill says although many come for the fritters, the weekend is about coming together as a community. .

“The food is so good but really I think the fellowship and the time of the families together and the children, if you come here, it’s really about family, it’s a family atmosphere,” added Pastor Hill.

The festival wraps up Sunday.
