Area, State Law Enforcement Investigating String of Pharmacy Burglaries

NEW ALBANY, Miss. (WCBI) — A burglary last week in New Albany has law enforcement, both local and state, eyeing a connection with burglaries in two other cities.

The Rite-Aid Pharmacy was burglarized last Monday, where a substantial amount of narcotics were stolen.

The suspects reportedly gained entry by breaching a portion of a concrete wall which was unprotected by alarm sensors.

Police Chief Chris Robertson said the style of entry was unusual, and pointed to a considerable amount of planning.

Last week in Houston, the Save-a-Lot grocery store and Fred’s Pharmacy were also broken into, where multiple suspects peeled back tin at the rear of the building, and created an entry point through the sheet rock. Police Chief Billy Voyles last week said evidence gathered indicated the suspects went straight to Save-a-Lot after the botched attempts shortly after midnight at Fred’s.

The Fred’s Pharmacy in Pontotoc was the subject of a similar hit last week. Suspects reportedly took a sledgehammer to the wall to create a hole, and were able to make off with a small amount of narcotics.
