Area Teens Win Bridge-Building Nationals

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Students from Guntown Middle School and Tupelo High School took their talents to Louisville, Ky. on Wednesday to compete in the national bridge-building championships.

Luke Smith, Paslay Adkins and Brandon Dillard brought home top honors in the seventh and eight grade division for Guntown Middle School.

Katerina Kushla, Jo Orrick and Kai Brieck won the ninth and 10th grade division for Tupelo High School.

Also, Tupelo Middle was represented by Sarah Daniels, Abigail Grant and Victor Milev, who won second in the seventh and eight grade division.

Another team from Tupelo High including James Grant, Clayton Sewell and Luke Tucker also took second place in the 9th and 10th grade division.

The team’s bridges were judged on their strength-weight ratio and their personal presentation.

The competition was sponsored by the American Association of State and Highway Transportion Officials.
