MACON, MISS. (WCBI) — It’s a small world after all. All it takes this week is an imagination passport to learn more about world cultures. Nadyn Samara wants her classmates to understand what it’s really like in Jerusalem. It’s where she was born.

“Well now they’ll get to know me more, and they’ll get to know what I do, and like the things I’m use to doing.”

Principal Helen Gilkey says there’s another world out there. That’s why teachers at B.F. Liddell Elementary are focusing on far-off places and cultures.

“Our teachers have gone an extra step to tie in learning standards that the students would see on upcoming assessments, so it’s also helping them to be better prepared for state tests.”

Shykerria Brown may travel abroad one day. She says it’s important to know about the ways of the world.

“To get to learn about it for when you travel or where you eat and see a lot of places.”

Adamary Chora learned that even daily tasks can be a challenge in some countries.

“Over there they had to wake up early and get water from lakes and stuff to wash their clothes, and over here we just have washing machines.”

Overall these fifth and sixth grade students see the similarities between cultures.

“All the things we do, they do the same, but they do theirs a little different.”
