Arson Investigation in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — A possible arson investigation is underway on the 1400th block of 11th Avenue South.

According to Interim Chief Shelton A small fire started in a back room of an abandoned house Sunday afternoon.

He says the fire department can tell the fire was intentionally set because of the burn pattern.

Evidence at the scene shows that someone was squatting there.

Police Chief Fred Shelton says that the dangers with abandoned houses is people are looking for warmth when it gets cold, start a fire and don’t put it out right.
