Artifacts Case Thrown Out

GREENVILLE, MS (WCBI) – An Amory man on trial in federal court for allegedly digging up Indian relics on Corps of Engineers property is cleared of those claims.
Jason Mark Lawrence was charged with digging in an Indian Mound near the Tenn Tom Waterway in Monroe County.  Lawrence’s trial was underway this week in Greenville when the case was dismissed because federal prosecutors did not provide key information to his defense team.  Court records show prosecutors planned to call expert witnesses in the case but never gave defense attorneys any background on the expert witnesses despite a judges order that information be turned over.  Defense attorney Christi McCoy filed a motion during this weeks trial saying the failure to be able to research the experts made it impossible for her to properly prepare.   Federal prosecutors did not oppose that motion and Judge Debra Brown dismissed the charges and ruled the case could not be prosecuted again.
