WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) — It’s a special day for seven West Point teachers who are being told ‘thank you.’

Tuesday was a reward day for some deserving teachers.

West Point’s senior basketball players are giving something special to some teachers who have made a difference in their life.

For the educators, it means seeing their dedication to education pay off.

“It’s very humbling, AJ is great. He’s a good student, he actually really gets it. He’s always on task,” said Pamela Anderson, a West Point High School teacher.

“She’s been there for me since like day one. And she is one of the best teachers in this school, she really cares about the kids and she wants students to learn and go somewhere with their lives,” said AJ McFarland, senior basketball player.

It’s an idea that came from the boys basketball coach, Brad Cox, to have the senior players write a letter to a teacher who has inspired them the most.

He hopes his players will learn a valuable lesson through writing the letters.

“The players learn that just taking a few seconds to write 3 or 4 sentences to somebody that has meant a lot to you will really impact them for a long time,” said Coach Cox.

The chosen teachers wear their students jersey for the school day and to the next basketball game.

Mario Easter says it makes him proud to see his favorite teacher wearing his number.

“I’m kind of happy to see him wear my jersey, I’m sure he’s proud of me,” said Easter, senior basketball player.

“I don’t get to do this everyday, so it’s kind of an honor and a privilege to wear his jersey. I know he works really hard so, I’m really happy to be able to do that,” said Scott Hudson, West Point High School teacher.

The teachers will wear the jerseys for the rest of the school day.
