Authorities Investigating Apparent Drowning in Pulley Creek

CALHOUN COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — A woman died of an apparent drowning in a creek just south of Big Creek.

30-year-old Courtney Leigh Collins of Slate Springs was found by a search party in the bottom of a creek in Pulley Creek.

Sheriff Greg Pollan says Collins and her husband Matthew Collins were riding a 4-wheeler in the creek when it got stuck in mud and stopped running.

Matthew told authorities he went back to get tools from his truck, and when he returned 45 minutes later, his wife Courtney was gone.

Pollan says the body was found in the creek about 9:30 p.m. around 200 yards away from the 4-wheeler.

Courtney’s body was sent to Jackson for an autopsy.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
