Amanda and Tim Autrey

From the Mississippi Highway Patrol and Staff Reports

The Mississippi Highway Patrol continues to investigate an early afternoon crash in Lee County that claimed the life if a Baldwyn woman.

Troopers were dispatched to the Christmas Day crash at approximately 1 p.m., on MS 245, just south of Shannon between Shannon and Okolona.

Upon arriving, it appeared Timothy Autrey, 26, of Baldwyn, was traveling south in a 1997 Ford F150, when he apparently lost control of the vehicle and overturned.

Autrey, a 2005 graduate of Mooreville High School, was ejected from the vehicle, but received only minor injuries. His wife, Amanda Autrey, 25, had to be extricated from the vehicle. She was transported to North Mississippi Medical Center where she later died from injuries sustained from the crash.

The couple have been married since July 2007.

Lee County Coroner Carolyn Green says Amanda Autry, a 2006 graduate of Shannon High School, died at about 2:30 p.m., about 90 minutes after the accident.

They weren’t wearing a seat belt. Troopers say they aren’t sure whether the truck hydroplaned on wet roads.

The accident marked the fourth fatality in the state during the long holiday travel period. One of those was Sunday in Lowndes County.
