Baptist Golden Triangle Gets High Marks for Cancer Care

COLUMBUS, Miss. — Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle has achieved silver certification from the Mississippi Cancer Registry based on the hospital’s submission of complete and high-quality data.

Baptist Golden Triangle submitted at least 90 percent of its expected volume of cancer cases diagnosed and/or receiving the first course of treatment at the hospital and less than 3 percent of the hospital’s cancer cases reported were missing crucial information such as age, sex or city of residence at the time of diagnosis. Less than 5 percent of cancer cases were missing race. Also, to reach Silver Certification, the hospital had to have submitted information on at least 95 percent of the unresolved cancer deaths that occurred at Baptist Golden Triangle by the deadline.

The purpose of the award is to recognize hospitals for submitting timely, complete and high quality information so that the Mississippi Cancer Registry can effectively monitor the amount of cancer cases in the state.

This year’s certification is based on diagnosis data from 2012.

With 315 beds, Baptist Golden Triangle is the largest regional hospital affiliated with the Memphis, Tenn.-based Baptist Memorial Health Care system. With physicians and surgeons representing almost every medical specialty practicing at the hospital, Baptist Golden Triangle offers a wide range of comprehensive medical care to patients of all ages.

In addition to the Baptist Cancer Center, the hospital offers a variety of services to the community, Baptist Behavioral Health Care for those with behavioral and mental health problems, an emergency room with 24-hour ambulance service, an extensive rehabilitation department, and educational programs. Baptist Golden Triangle employs more than 1,000 health care professionals.
