Baptist Golden Triangle to Host Blood Drive

COLUMBUS, Miss. (Press Release) — Christmas is over, but the gift-giving can continue. In fact, the gift of one blood donation can actually help save up to three lives, according to United Blood Services (UBS).
UBS and Baptist Memorial Hospital – Golden Triangle encourage you to start the new year and honor National Blood Donor Month in January by giving life to others at the upcoming community blood drive.

The blood drive will be Jan. 21 from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. in the hospital’s Outpatient Pavilion Conference Center. UBS provides blood for Baptist Golden Triangle and all other hospitals in the Golden Triangle.

“Our goal is for this drive is 30 donors, and I know we can reach that goal,” said Donna Grant, community relations coordinator for Baptist and coordinator for the blood drive. “This is a critical time for supplying blood, so we really need people to give.”

As part of UBS Mardi Gras celebration, donors will receive a long-sleeve Mardi Gras T-shirt (while supplies last). Donors will also be entered in a region-wide drawing to win a trip for two to the Krewe of Orpheus “Orpheuscapade” held in New Orleans on Feb. 16. The winner will be drawn on Feb. 2.

Donors are encouraged to make an appointment to donate at the Columbus drive by going to www.bloodhero.com and finding the drive using the Sponsor Code: baptistgt. Donors can also speed up the process by completing the health history interview online at www.unitedbloodservices.org the day of the drive. They may click on the ‘Health History Questionnaire, then print the Fast Track Donation ticket and bring it with them when they donate.

Volunteer blood donors must be at least 16 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. Additional height/weight requirements apply to donors 22 and younger, and donors who are 16 years old must have signed permission from a parent or guardian. Donors receive a free cholesterol test.
