NEW ALBANY, Miss. (WCBI) — Having a beer at concerts or festivals in New Albany doesn’t appear likely anytime soon.

Mayor Tim Kent says his survey of aldermen found little interest in granting special exemptions for such sales.

Tourism director Sean Johnson had sought a change in city ordinances in anticipation of next month’s Tallahatchie Riverfest and other fall events. Supporters said it would increase attendance and generate revenue. Opponents said it would take away from a family friendly atmosphere.

The sales would be similar to what Columbus allows at Market Street, Juneteenth, Sounds of Summer and other open community events.
