Belmont Senator Recovering From Surgery

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – A second state lawmaker from north Mississippi is hospitalized after undergoing gall bladder surgery.

Democratic Sen. J.P. Wilemon of Belmont had surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. Hospital spokesman Jack Mazurak says Wilemon is in good condition Friday.

Sen. Gary Jackson of French Camp announced to colleagues during the Senate session Friday that Wilemon had one surgery Thursday and another Friday.

The 73-year-old Wilemon has been in the Senate since 2004, representing Itawamba, Prentiss and Tishomingo counties.

State Rep. Steve Holland of Plantersville has remained hospitalized since having gall bladder surgery at UMMC two weeks ago.
