BLU SPRINGS, Miss. (WCBI) — It’s a small community that wants to do its part to help ailing children.

The town of Blue Springs held its annual Blue Springs Day with live entertain, as well as plenty of food and craft booths. It is a time for the community to get together and this year they are using some of the proceed to benefit Le Bonheur Children’s hospital in Memphis.

Blue Springs Mayor Rita Gentry says it is a worthy cause.

“We’re so glad they joined us and maybe we can help some children along the way. We have some people here in town that have had a lot of dealings with Le Bonheur had children up there and stuff so it’s kind of a special thing around here and we’re actually glad to contribute in anyway we can,” says Gentry.

Gentry says fifty percent of the proceeds will go to the Le Bonheur and some will go to pay for the Christmas lights fund. They also had a 5k run this morning with more than 40-runners participating.
