Bomb Threat Called In To Monroe County Jail

ABERDEEN, Miss. (WCBI) – A bomb threat was called in to the Monroe County Jail this afternoon.

Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell tells WCBI that the call came in around 12:30 pm today.

Bomb-sniffing dogs from the Columbus Air Force Base inspected the perimeter and inside the jail after the threat was made.

The sheriff says that although they’ve had people out there for around three hours, nothing has happened, and he is preparing to release everyone.

Cantrell also tells us the call was traced to a prepaid cellphone, but the identity of the suspect is not known.

Investigators are trying to track down the source.

The jail is not being evacuated.
