LOUISVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) —  State, Winston County, and the city of Louisville leaders celebrated the groundbreaking of the new Winston Medical Center, which was destroyed in the tornado back in 2014.

The 165,000 square foot, $52 million state of the art facility is expected to be complete in Spring of 2017.

“Since the day of the tornado, we’ve been looking to get to this spot…”, Winston Medical CEO Paul Black said, “…things are actually going up. Instead of just talking about it, it’s actually taking place.

Governor Phil Bryant and the First Lady Deborah Bryant came to the ceremony, along with Louisville Mayor Will Hill and Winston County Board of Supervisors.

Black said he’s thankful for all the support from state, county, and city leaders for all the support to get to Thursday’s groundbreaking.

Chief Operating Officer Octavius Ivy said , “this is one of those days I put at the top of the list, it’s very exciting.

“It’s no different than going to Disney world….”

Bryant said the county is looking at a potential of 300 employees at the medical facility, and is a big part of the state’s push to use healthcare as an economic driver.

Bryant credits teamwork from agencies and governments from around the state to have the construction project at the point it is.
