BREAKING NEWS UPDATE MHP Thinks Delta State Shooter No Longer On Campus


JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – The latest on a shooting at Delta State University that left a professor dead (all times local):

Authorities say they believe the suspect in the shooting of a university professor in Mississippi is no longer on the campus.

Warren Strain, spokesman for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, says the suspect is no longer believed to be on the Delta State University campus. He did not immediately elaborate, and it was not clear how investigators reached that conclusion. The suspect’s possible whereabouts also were not immediately clear.

Meanwhile, investigators have been sweeping buildings on campus to look for the suspect, who officials say killed a professor in his office. The officer has not been identified.

The 3,500-student university is in Cleveland, in Mississippi’s Delta region near the Arkansas-Mississippi state line.
