BRUCE, Miss. (WCBI) — Local youngsters spent Saturday morning learning about a world famous author, all while having fun.

The Jesse Yancy Memorial Library, in Bruce, hosted a “kids’ day” with a unique theme and a lot of fun.

Games, crafts and sweet treats are just a few things these kids are enjoying at the Bruce library.

It was all to celebrate the birthday of Roald Dahl, a British author, poet and screenwriter.

He wrote several well-known books, including the famous “Charlie And The Chocolate Factory.”

“It’s also the 50th anniversary of Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, so we themed everything around Charlie And The Chocolate Factory,” said Emily Sutherland, the branch manager.

Participants say it’s not only a fun time but also a chance to meet other friends with similar interests.

“I’m glad I was able to be here, you know, with all the other kids and actually be able to share the love of Willy Wonka,” said returning participant, Alexis Browning.

“We read a book, we did games and all that. It was fun, ” said returning participant, Katelyn Ellis.

This fun day for kids happens a few times a year with different themes geared toward learning.

Organizers have one goal for the library program.

“That’s our goal is get the, here and get them out there checking out books and upping their reading level and just getting more confident cause it’ll help them in the future, ” Sutherland said.

The event was sponsored by Twentieth Century Club of Bruce and the next program will be held on Saturday, October 18th at 11:00 am. It will be a costume movie party.
