Bryan Family Announces Mossy Oak Golf Club Opening

WEST POINT, Miss. (PRESS RELEASE) – The Bryan family, founders of Old Waverly Golf Club and Mossy Oak, a leading outdoor lifestyle and conservation brand, announced today that the new, premier golf destination known as Mossy Oak Golf Club in West Point, Mississippi, will open on Sept. 2, 2016.

Designed by 2016 Olympic golf course architect Gil Hanse, Mossy Oak Golf Club will deliver a truly special golf experience in the south known as Nature’s Golf – one that accentuates the beauty and habitat of the region and delivers a full-sensory golf experience.

Nature’s Golf is felt from the moment a golfer enters the clubhouse and steps onto the course,” explains George Bryan, co-founder of Mossy Oak Golf Club.

“The expansive landscape highlights the local habitat of the Mississippi Black Prairie. Once off the first tee, nature is a highlight of the playing experience, with native grasses, wildlife and creeks interacting with fairways and bunker complexes to blend a sense of place on every hole.”

Mossy Oak Golf Club is set in the rolling hills of the Mississippi Black Prairie and features a 7,500 yard, par-72 golf course.

The course routing is a walk through dotted native oak trees and grasses, with interesting elevation changes and expansive views of the property.

Shaped with attention to minimalist design, the course is ideal for walking with tee boxes placed adjacent to the greens.

The natural habitat guides the golf experience with many 360-degree views of the entire property throughout the 18-holes.

Plans for the facility also include a clubhouse and accompanying guest cabins to accommodate golf travelers.

Nature’s Golf represents the player’s journey through the landscape, which is best experienced on foot with a connection to the outdoors,” said Hanse.

“Each design element of Mossy Oak Golf Club was carefully considered to heighten the golfer’s awareness of the outdoors and accentuate the area’s natural resources.”

In addition to the new course, Hanse also designed a practice facility to serve as the official home for the Mississippi State University men’s and women’s golf teams.

The facility includes a five-green driving range, short-game training areas and a 16,000 square-foot putting green formed in the shape of the state of Mississippi, as well as a 6,400 square-foot team clubhouse with locker rooms, players’ lounge, coaches’ offices, an indoor putting center (with SAM PuttLab training system), an exercise room and conference room.

The project also includes a 2,400 square-foot indoor hitting bay, equipped with two Trackman swing and ball flight analysis systems and a club repair room.

Mossy Oak Golf Club is adjacent to Old Waverly Golf Club, one of the premier golf courses in the southeast and home of the 1999 Women’s U.S. Open and 2014 ISPS Handa Cup.

The George and Marcia Bryan family has operated the private club since its creation in 1988.

The membership of Old Waverly has stretched beyond West Point to include members from the 250-mile radius around the southeast, and the family sees the addition of Mossy Oak contributing a positive economic impact for the region.

The new course will become an extension of Old Waverly, with opportunities for guests to stay and play both courses.
