COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — The signs are up…Now Columbus and potential riders are just waiting for the buses. City crews put up signs this week marking stops for the proposed Lawrence Transit Service. But the company hasn’t indicated to city officials whether it actually will start anytime soon. After more than a year of discussions, the city has given the Indiana-based company until Aug. 9h to get five buses to Columbus or the deal will be dead. Mayor Robert Smith said the city put up the signs to make sure it keeps its end of the bargain. A company representative told WCBI Wednesday afternoon the buses would be in Columbus Monday and that the company, which promises routes throughout the city for a small fee to riders depending on distance and age of the rider, will finally details next week.
