CALEDONIA, Miss. (WCBI) – Someone is taking mail from Lowndes County residents.

Now, law enforcement need help catching them.

Caledonia Town Marshal Ben Kilgore tells WCBI a Lowndes County road department worker found a large amount of mail on Wednesday that had been tossed aside. Piles of discarded mail were found in ditches along the side of the road.

The thieves seem to be working along Highway 12. Homes from Military Road to Cal-Vernon Road have been hit, and at least 10 homes in the town limits of Caledonia.

“I think they are looking for credit cards or anything of value. Like I said, that one box may or may not have had a cell phone in it. We haven’t gotten that verified yet, but anything of value. But I suspect more it’s credit cards or anything like that and being the first of the month, maybe checks,” said Kilgore.

Residents also noticed their mail was taken because their mailboxes were left open.

The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department and the Postal Inspector are investigating.

If you have any information call law enforcement.
