Calhoun Bans Guns in Courthouse, Others Likely to Follow Suit

CALHOUN COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Calhoun County becomes among the first of what is expected to be a string of counties to ban guns from their county courthouse.

Attorney General Jim Hood issued an opinion Thursday saying local governments could ban guns from county courthouse grounds, even if the person has a concealed carry permit.

Based on that ruling, Calhoun County supervisors approved the ban today and will post signs alerting gun owners.

Judges and sheriffs in several districts have been considering similar bans but have been waiting for Hood’s office to issue an opinion.
