Calhoun City Aldermen Rename Board Room to ‘Ace’s Place’

CALHOUN CITY, Miss. (WCBI) — The “Godfather of the Saxophone” gets another tribute in his hometown.

The Calhoun City Board of Aldermen has decided to name its board room in City Hall as “Ace’s Place,” in honor of native son Ace Cannon.

The room also will display Cannon’s first saxophone.

Calhoun City hosts a festival each year in Cannon’s honor. Cannon was inducted into the Mississippi Music Hall of Fame six years ago.

With a career that began with Sun Records in the 1950s and took him all over the world, he also has spots in the Smithsonian, the Memphis Music Hall of Fame and the International Rockabilly Hall of Fame.
