PITTSBORO, Miss(WCBI)- The Calhoun County Hospital is arguably the County’s most valuable asset and Supervisors want to keep it that way.

The time has come for a new contract to run the Calhoun County hospital and supervisors say they want the best deal for the buck.
“We are a profitable hospital today, so we’re not looking to be bailed out of a bad financial situation, we’re looking for capital improvements for the future,” Calhoun Health Services administrator James Franklin said.

Whoever decides to bid on the hospital must have a net revenue of 500 million dollars, and must agree to spend 1 million dollars on capital improvements.

However, the hospital board says it’s not necessarily looking for the highest bid, rather than the best bid.

“We’ve tried to make sure that it’s not about the dollars per say, but its about sustaining health care in a rural area where it is crucial for our residents,” chairman of CHS board of trustees Rita Parker said.

Also, the bidder on this project must agree to keep and operate the hospital like it is today but would be allowed to expand the hospital if they want.
While sometimes new management can mean job loss, the hospital board ensures current employees will have nothing to fear with this transition.

“Majority of employees will not lose their jobs or anything like that, if anything happens, we would probably have some additional jobs added to the current jobs that we now have,” Franklin said.
Although some residents may not want to see the change, the hospital board thinks the decision will greatly impact the community.

“I would anticipate it being a better situation, because those that would be bidding would have the resources to do things that we don’t have the money to do,” Parker said.

The deadline to submit a proposal on the hospital is November 20th.

The Board of Supervisors say they are expecting bids from the current contract holder North Missisisppi Health Services, or Baptist Memorial Hospital
