STARKVILLE, Miss. (Press Release) — Mississippi State will welcome thousands of new and returning students August 9 as they begin moving into campus residence halls.

The Department of Housing and Residence Life is sponsoring the ninth annual Movin’ You to MSU or “MVNU2MSU” day, which marks the opening of all residence halls for the fall semester. Classes begin August 18.

Ann Bailey, director of housing and residence life, said the day marks a major university event and an important tradition in the life of MSU as it signals the beginning of a new academic year.

“Businesses will be bustling, and traffic will again get busier around town as students settle in on campus and in Starkville,” Bailey said. “August always is filled with excitement as we anticipate the many opportunities the new semester brings.”

Easily identified by their MVNU2MSU t-shirts, hundreds of volunteers will be on hand across campus to greet and assist students and their families with moving clothes and other personal belongings into their new “homes.”

Specific details regarding move-in day, including check-in times and locations as well as a helpful move-in checklist, can be found online at www.housing.msstate.edu/mvnu2msu/.

Students who must move in after 4:30 p.m. Saturday [Aug. 9] are asked to report directly to the front desk of their assigned residence hall.

“Students are the heartbeat of Mississippi State University. To see our new and returning students move into their residence halls with excitement during MVNU2MSU is an absolutely remarkable sight,” said Avent Clark, housing and residence life marketing and communications coordinator.

With several new residence halls constructed in recent years, Mississippi State University now houses approximately 4,600 students on campus.
