Candidates Continue To Qualify For Legislative Races

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Another candidate announced his bid to replace Brian Aldridge in the Mississippi House of Representatives on Tuesday.

Republican Shane Aguirre said he is running for the District 17 seat. He’s the son of Tupelo Police Chief Bart Aguirre.

Shane Aguirre will meet Mark Prince in the GOP primary.

The winner will face Jim Newman in the general election.

In House District 45, incumbent Democrat Michael Evans and Clark Adams will be on the Primary ticket.

Four Republicans will face off in the primary election to replace retiring State Senator Giles Ward.

Jenifer Braniing, Speedy Calvert, Mark Forsman, and Curt Pace are all vying for the District 18 seat.

The qualifying deadline is February 27th.
