Cars Damaged, 5 In Custody After Columbus Shooting

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Five people are being held in connection with a north Columbus shooting.

The shooting happened at Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and 18th Avenue on Monday evening, just as an officer was driving by.

A Columbus police spokesperson says two cars where hit by gunfire.

No one was injured.

Investigators believe the shooting is related to an incident earlier in the day. It’s unclear if it is related to the shooting on seventh avenue north.

Two guns were recovered by police.

Assistant Police Chief Fred Shelton says detectives are working to develop information on suspects and arrests are expected to be made soon.
