CLAY COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — The Clay County Sheriff’s Department has some new gear headed its way.

Come Oct. 1, the department will receive a $41,000 U.S. Department of Justice grant, which will go toward new equipment.

The grant aims to bolster local authorities in their efforts to combat drunk driving.

The sheriff’s department will use the money to purchase new in-car cameras, driving vests, three portable breathalyzers and three alcohol-detecting flashlights.

Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott said he’s unsure about just how the new flashlights will operate, and added the department would be purchasing the equipment as soon as the grant money comes in.
