LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — A Columbus man already on probation makes his problems worse by running from Columbus police and Lowndes County sheriff’s deputies.

Stillman Underwood III, 23,  now faces felony fleeing charges and a host of misdemeanors after the high speed chase that began with a traffic stop.

When a Columbus officer approached Underwood’s older model Nissan, he took off. Deputies joined the chase out Highway 12 but backed off for safety reasons, especially since Underwood had a juvenile relative in his car.

He was caught trying to sneak back into the county from Alabama at Westbrook and Honnell Mill roads in far northeastern Lowndes County.

County investigators say he was on probation for a gun-related conviction and was driving on a suspended license.
