STARKVILLE, MISS. (WCBI)– Houses representing the past was the theme for the Starkville Civic League Annual Christmas Tour of Homes.
Cars lined the streets as people explored the handful of homes across Starkville. The tour of homes is the league’s only fundraiser and the money raised from the tickets go towards projects that benefits the community.
The league started in 1938 and has been doing the home tour for 11 years according to league member, Moderia Petty.

“We wanted to do something different and we just, I don’t know who came up with the idea but we just decided on this and it’s been, it does real well every year.”

Eighty phone calls later and a lot of narrowing down, five unique houses became the chosen models for the tour says the Christmas Tour of Homes Chair, Chris Emplaincourt.

“The homes we selected this year are homes that have been in Starkville for years, and years, and years, and they’re not what you would call historic homes but these are people that moved to the community in the 70’s.”

Homeowner Jay Yeates’s home has been in the family for years and is honored to have been selected to be apart of the tour.

“I just love living in a small town in Mississippi and being able to live in an old house like we live in and decorate it and just be apart of the Christmas spirit.”

These homes’ decorations aren’t your average Christmas decorations.

“Filled with memorable. They didn’t go out you know, just all of a sudden, get decorations for Christmas. These are items and decorations that have been in their families.”

Homeowner Amy Yeates’s Christmas decorations date back decades.

“I love decorating for Christmas and I have inherited over the years my grandmother’s decoration, my mother-in-law’s decorations, plus some of my own, so I really enjoy putting those out and getting to remember my loved ones.”

The fundraiser normally raises around 6,000 dollars.
