TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – The City of Tupelo will likely take over animal control duties from the Tupelo-Lee Humane Society.

City leaders working on the 2015 budget, plan to add animal control services to the police department.

Mayor Jason Shelton says the city will likely budget for two animal control officers.

Humane Society employees say this will help them focus on caring for the animals, and law enforcement is better suited for handling dangerous animal abuse calls.
