CRAWFORD, Miss. (WCBI) – Long time Civil Rights Activists James Meredith made the rounds Tuesday to talk about his most recent book.

Meredith was the first African-American student admitted to the segregated University of Mississippi. Tuesday he spent time in Crawford, Artesia and Columbus to spread his message of getting young black kids on the right track. He feels generations of blacks through out the south have lost their way when it comes to raising a complete child.

“I’ve always thought I was on a mission from God. My present mission is to get the black people of Mississippi to do for themselves all that they can do to improve their lives.”

His book “A Mission from God: A Memoir and a Challenge for America” is his latest publication.
