AMORY, Miss. (WCBI) – It’s the talk in Amory and a project one couple couldn’t pass up when they saw it at the junk yard.
The back end of a Classic Chevy turned modern sofa.

When they saw it he wasn’t so sure but his wife was all over it.

“I told the fellas and I said I want the back end of that car,” said Marie Crabtree.

The Crabtrees are members of the Aberdeen Antique and Classic car club and work on cars regularly, but building a sofa out of the back end of a 1957 Chevy was a challenge they’ve never taken on before.

“We were going down for parts for another car and we spotted this thing out in the field and we turned around and said lets make a sofa out of it,” added Donald.

“It was challenging, I mean its the first time I’ve ever done a sofa out of a back end of a car,” said Danny George who upholstered it.

When they found the classic piece in a Texas junk yard it was rusted and it poor condition. But with some TLC, the classic part has become a antique car lovers dream. A dream that will soon end up in the Crabtrees son’s living room.

“Oh it’s been a real trip. It is going to Dallas Texas in my sons living room, except his wife doesn’t know it yet. I did tell them that they have one big gift coming and it was going to take care of the anniversary, the birthdays, the Happy New year, Merry Christmas. It’s all in one,” added Marie.

The $3,500 sofa is not the only idea that Marie has come up with, she says she’s got many more where that came from.

“I’ve got ideas for other things I’d like to do, I don’t know it he would go along with me or not,” added Marie.

And with blinking back lights on the sides of this love sit, it’s a beauty to be enjoyed by their family for years to come.

The 1957 sofa piece took about 8 months for the Crabtree’s to build from scratch.
