WEST POINT, Miss. (Press Release) – Trial of the case State of Mississippi v. Tameshia Shelton began at 9:00 A.M., Tuesday, July 14, 2015 in the Circuit Court of Clay County, Mississippi, on a charge of Murder. Shortly after 5:00 P.M. on Friday, July 18, 2015, after deliberating for approximately 2 hours, the 12-person jury returned a verdict of guilty as charged in the murder of Danelle Young, 21, of Forrest, Mississippi. At a sentencing hearing held immediately after the trial, the Court sentenced the Defendant to serve a term of LIFE IMPRISONMENT in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections. The case was investigated by Chief Deputy Ramirez Williams of the Clay County Sheriff’s Department. Per statute, the Defendant will not be eligible for parole until she is 65 years old. “The family of Danelle Young waited a long time for justice, but I believe they think the wait well worth their while,” District Attorney Forrest Allgood said. “It was a team effort. Had it not been for the Clay County Sheriff’s Department, nothing would ever have been accomplished.”
