CLAY COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)-West Point residents will soon have a new system for phone-related services for the the city’s Department of Water and Light. Starting January first after 5PM phone calls made to the department will be answered by an interactive voice response or I-V-R that will help direct the call to an on-call person. Calls used to be transferred the the Clay County’s 911 call center and directed from there. The costs for using the 911 call center was supposed to increase from $10,000 a year to$20,000 a year starting the first of next year. It was later found that the costs would remain the same but the Water and Light Department already began purchasing needed equipment for new phone service. All other departments in the city will soon follow suit and will eventually all use an I-V-R.
