CLAY COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Clay County Supervisors are hard at work finalizing regulations for RV Parks. In light of economic development in West Point and Clay County, officials there wanting to get citizen input held a public hearing today [Thursday] at the Clay County Courthouse.

A West Point fireman was among the people letting his voices be heard about fire protection, in a growing city and county poised for an economic boost. Although West Point resident Vaughn Blaylock is in favor of RV Parks, there is a criminal element he still has unanswered questions about.

“And so that’s one of my concerns is what happens when the people who live close to this RV Park that could become a mobile home park and how do we ensure that its managed properly,” said Vaughn Blaylock.

“We need the sites, we need the beds for construction workers and also for tourism in the long-term I’m looking at the tourism side,” said Van Williams, Clay County.

Another citizen attending Thursday’s public hearing sort of prefers putting up temporary houses that are cheaper and can be taken up if need be. All concerns from residents having to make important decisions in light of future economic successes.

“I completely support the park I just want to make sure that there is an after plan,” said Vaughn Blaylock.

“We need sites for people to live, we also need to have it where its pleasant and safe and secure for every one,” said Williams.

Clay County Supervisors will again take up the issue at their October 7th meeting.
