COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Columbus Municipal School District students that are enrolled in the Early College Program at EMCC will soon have a ride back and forth to their classes.

Monday night at the CMSD school board meeting an agreement between the program, Lowndes County and the school district was approved with a few tweaks.

The board was previously concerned with how the transportation was going to be paid for, how long the contract was and what exact routes would be taken.

The contract was changed from 5 to 4 years to comply with state law, Mississippi Department of Transportation will give CMSD 10-thousand dollars in grant money to help with the transportation cost and CMSD students will hitch a ride with New Hope students.

“New Hope’s bus from EMCC, our students will ride the New Hope bus, and they will actually go back and drop our children off at the high school and then continue to New Hope, ” Dr. Philip Hickman, CMSD Superintendent.

CMSD Early College students will start riding the bus on Wednesday.
