WINSTON COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Winston County is a hot spot for severe weather.

That’s why emergency management officials want residents to sign up for the Code Red program.

It’s a telephone based electronic alert system that gives severe weather notifications.

Code Red was launched in Winston County in November, but there are still plenty of people who haven’t signed up.

“Currently we have about 700 subscribers in Winston County,” said Buddy King, Winston County EMA Director. “That number is extremely low for our 20,000 residents. It’s been a wonderful program. We have gotten rave reviews from the people that are on the program, so we want to make sure we get the word out that it is available.”
