TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — 49 Philips Lighting employees are looking for work after layoffs were announced today.

The company says this is a temporary and seasonal move.

A slowdown in construction during the colder months is one reason Philips is laying off the hourly workers.

Philips says the employees will be hired back if demand picks up.

Philips announced a $2 million expansion back in August. At the time, the company said 50 workers would be hired, bringing a total of 400 working at the Tupelo facility.
