STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — A Mississippi State University student is using a non-profit she started to help law enforcement officers.

On Thursday, Kellie Abbott handed out more than 100 tourniquets to several local law enforcement agencies, including the MSU and Starkville police departments.

Abbott started the non-profit “Blue Forever” after her friend, a Shreveport police officer, bled to death.

“Friends and family of police officers really do not need to suffer in the way that my friend Tim’s family and friends did, because one of the most preventable deaths is traumatic bleeding, so I truly felt the need to kind of serve that as my purpose,” Abbott said.

Abbott is a junior chemistry major, and plans to become a pharmacist.
