COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – The Columbus Air Force Base spread the holiday cheer Wednesday morning.

As part of the Happy Christmas Fund program, members of the CAFB Honor Guard delivered fruit baskets to those less fortunate throughout the community. The Honor Guard spent all morning loading and hand delivering the baskets to elderly residents nominated by the Department of Health and Human Services and the Townsend Community Center. Both recipients and volunteers were grateful for the experience.

“Columbus Air Force Base loves to be a part of the community, and the community gives back to base. We strive to show that relationship every year,” said Senior Airman Michael Worth.

“We are very thankful for the help. We’ve always been neighbors to the air force base, but this really makes me feel like we’re friends and close,” said basket recipient Anna Usery.

The Happy Christmas Fund was established by the late George “Happy” Irby, a long-term staff member at the Columbus Club.
