COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Efforts to bring a charter school to Columbus are still alive. The Charter School Authorization Board Tuesday picked Inspire Charter School as one of two applications it will consider this year.

The Columbus-based group plans to open a K-3 school and then to add a grade to the school until Inspire is a K-3 operation. The state evaluator will set a meeting date with the school founders and might also call for a public hearing before making its final decision on the application. That vote is scheduled to take place during the December meeting of the Charter School board.

This is the second year Inspire has been named a finalist for a charter school.
