Columbus, Miss. (WCBI)– As the nation continues to try and grasp the horrible tragedy that happened in Charleston, South Carolina this past Wednesday, the city of Columbus sent their prayers and love to the families who were affected.

People of all races, ages, and walks of life gathered at the Lowndes County Courthouse for the purpose of praying for the Emmanuel A.M.E. Church.

“It’s a blessing and it’s only from God…that he is able to bring us together out of such tragedy”, said Randy Pate of the Christian Motorcycle Assocation.

The event gave anyone in attendance the opportunity to pray for Charleston, their community, or the country.

A sentiment shared by many at the event was how good it was to see such a large turnout at the event.

“It’s encouraging to see there’s still a lot of good people here…”, said Pastor Steven L. James of United Christian Baptist Church, “…I mean from all walks of life, different ages, different races…it’s just awesome.”
